Description:

Best known for his manhua, or sketchy drawings, works, people always credited the birth of Chinese manhua to Feng Zikai. Yet, not only did Feng make manhua, he was also a significant artist on Buddhist painting, landscape painting, and graphic design. In this talk, I will use Feng’s sketches of children and his well-known Buddhist artwork, Paintings on the Preservation of Life, to explore how he used his works to encourage human being’s creativity and to disseminate his religious thoughts through the mass printed media.
