In this workshop, Dr. Lo attempted to integrate theories and practices related to bilingual education and academic literacy. With interactive hands-on activities and discussion, “academic literacy” was explored, by highlighting the characteristics of academic language and asking participants to analyze the texts in different disciplines. After raising participants’ language awareness, the speaker introduced a “genre-based approach” and “language across the curriculum”, which aim to assist students in developing English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes.
The ELC was lucky to have Dr. Lo to come to the ELC as a Visiting Scholar, and we would like to thank the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for funding this opportunity.
