FAH-DENG Guest Lecture: “The Journey of 1,000 Miles Begins With A Single Step, But Where’s My Real Bed?” by Mr. Thomas Lim, Singapore
|22 Feb 2016|
Indies chase dreams to the end of the world. Strange bed-fellows haunt and taunt them. In this presentation, Thomas Lim shall share his unique experience as an indie arts practitioner. His journeys, from a theatre and then TV actor to a film scriptwriter and director, have taken him to and fro many places: Singapore (where he was born), London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Tokyo and Los Angeles (where he is currently based). Following the star dusts, he has lived and worked wherever and whenever he could find a bed to rest for the night.
A native of Singapore, Thomas Lim is a prominent film director in Macau, having directed and starred in the movie Roulette City which was considered a successful Macau film. As an actor, Lim is known for leading roles in Chinese TV drama series such as The Game (a.k.a. Pojian erchu), musicals like The Wizard of Oz (as the Cowardly Lion), and movies like One Last Dance. Lim’s directorial work Roulette City was released commercially in major cinemas in Japan, Singapore, and China, and the TV series he’d starred in were aired nationwide in China, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia. Lim trained at one of U.K’s top drama colleges – Rose Bruford College. As an avid backpacker, he’d traveled through 30 countries before turning 30. In the last 15 years, he has lived in Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, London, Tokyo, and now resides in Los Angeles.
