DESCRIPTION:Organizational units: University of Macau (UM)’s Department of Portuguese (DPORT) and the Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre (CPC)\, with the Department of Portuguese Language of the China Radio International (CRIpor) \nPeriod: Continue to be updated (15 episodes) \nPurpose and objective of the radio talk: The program\, titled “Chinese Ideas”\, will offer a systematic introduction to a group of major thinkers and works which shaped the Chinese intellectual tradition. DESCRIPTION:i-Learner Contest for 2nd Semester of AY20/21 \nMany of you use an online program called “i-Learner English for Universities platform” to practice your English language skills.\n“i-Learner” is a self-directed program for English language learning\, with which you can practice your English skills online at your own pace. Many students have enjoyed their learning experience with i-Learner and have given positive reviews. \nThis semester the ELC is glad to introduce an “i-Learner Contest” again to further encourage student participation in using the program. If you want to join the contest\, you need to complete as many i-Learner lessons as you can. The top 5 students who have completed the most numbers of lessons with the highest marks will be given attractive prizes. \nAll students enrolled in ELC courses in 2020/2021 are registered i-Learner users.\nYou can follow the steps below to start accumulating your i-Learner lessons during the competition period NOW from March 19 to May 14. \n1. SUMMARY:FAH-ELC Student Activity: Creative Writing Contest and Workshop
DESCRIPTION:As you may know\, the University of Macau celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To coincide with this theme\, the ELC is thrilled to launch:  i) a Creative Writing Contest (1-30 April now: 1 April to 9 May) and  ii) a Creative Writing Workshop (31 March now: 11 April). \n  \n1. Creative Writing Contest \nTo showcase your creativity\, you are invited to write a piece of work in any genre that is relevant to our overarching theme – UM’s 40th birthday. The contest is divided into the following three stages: \n\nSubmission: candidates will submit their writing on Moodle (now: 1 April to 9 May).\nSelection: tutors will select the best 6 pieces of written work.\nRecital event:  The selected winners present their story in any forms they prefer at the award ceremony on 12 May.\n\nPrizes are given to the winner\, first runner up\, second runner up and 3 honourable mentions. Prizes include coupons from the book store. \nAll UM students are welcome to participate. SUMMARY:FAH-DENG: Call for essays: “Best English Studies Essay Competition 2021"
DESCRIPTION:To all students enrolled in English Department courses: \n  \nHave you written an essay of which you are especially proud? Perhaps an essay written on a topic that particularly interested you and that you worked very hard to develop? The UM Department of English would like to acknowledge that achievement by again recognising the Best English Studies essays this coming Prize Day. \n  \nThe Best English Studies Essay prizes recognise excellence in the work you are doing every day in linguistics and literary studies. The essay you submit should be an academic essay you have written in response to a regular assignment in one of the English Department’s courses in these areas this academic year. The competition is open to students enrolled in English Department courses at any undergraduate level and to essays of any length. Prizes will be awarded for each of the four years of the program\, though the organisers reserve the right not to award a prize if essays are not of sufficient quality. Only one submission per student\, please. \n  \nIf you are interested in submitting an essay\, please send an e-mail with the subject line ‘Submission for Best English Studies Essay Competition’ to Damian Shaw at dshaw@um.edu.mo and attach your essay to the message as a Microsoft Word document only.
