The FAH Award for Excellence Teaching for the year 2016 is awarded to Nevia Dolcini, Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies and she will represent FAH in the UM Teaching Excellence Award 2016/2017.

Professor Dolcini’s award is based on student nominations, recommendation from the Head of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, a further recommendation by the Dean’s Advisory Committee, and a final endorsement by the FAH Faculty Management Team.

In the area of teaching, Professor Dolcini has taught a variety of UG and PG courses in philosophy and religious studies. The evidence of her teaching excellence was observed from her in-depth teaching statement and detailed accounts of course design, among others, through carefully constructed sample syllabuses, well-organized Moodle pages, excellent student’s course rating and evaluation, systematic quizzes, midterm and final examinations, and motivating student’s activities with sample presentations. Selected student feedback shows that Professor Dolcini is an outstanding instructor offering, in students’ words, the “best course at UM,” “thought-provoking,” “inspiring,” and “independent thinking.” Professor Dolcini is a dedicated instructor, effective educator and she truly deserves the recognition at the U-level.

We were impressed by her superior overall work and felt her teaching could serve as a role model for making teaching and learning of difficult topics enjoyable and useful.

Congratulations to Professor Dolcini!
