UM student Ho Cheok U receives best student of Portuguese award from Casa de Portugal

University of Macau (UM) student Ho Cheok U, from the Department of Portuguese, received the Best Student of Portuguese Award from the Casa de Portugal em Macau (The Home of Portugal in Macao), in recognition her excellent work and commitment to learning the Portuguese language and culture.

The award ceremony took place in Casa de Portugal em Macau. The award was presented by Paulo Cunha Alves, Consul General of Portugal in Macao, and Rui Farinha Fernandes Simões, member of Casa de Portugal em Macau. “I am very grateful to the recognition of Casa de Portugal em Macau, which is very encouraging for me to study Portuguese harder in the future”, Ho Cheok U says, “I would like to thank all the teachers of UM for their guidance and cultivation, which helped me solve many difficulties in learning Portuguese. And I hope there will be more events related to Portuguese learning both on campus and in community.”

Professor Sónia Ao, a faculty member from the Department of Portuguese, is happy for her student’s winning the award. “It shows recognition of her excellent work and commitment to learning the Portuguese language and culture,” she says. Professor Sónia Ao notes that UM students and faculty members have always worked hard in creating a good environment for Portuguese learning and the university organizes various kinds of events on a regular basis to stimulate the students’ interest and a better understanding in the Portuguese culture and to help them put knowledge into practice.
