Call for application: Programme Assistant Position in English Language Teaching (ELT) at the University of Macau

The English Language Centre, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau seeks local university graduate students to assist in its residential Summer English Immersion Programme on campus as Programme Assistants (PAs) in the summer of 2018. Local Programme Assistant positions are open to UM graduate students (in MA or PhD programs) who have a high level of written and spoken English, and who are interested in teaching. UM graduate students who come from Mainland China or other countries are also welcome to apply.

In the Summer English Immersion Programme, under the guidance of experienced instructors, local PAs will partner with international PAs in order to help UM’s local, incoming undergraduate students to improve their English. Local and international PAs will work together with the incoming students in small groups, inside and outside the classroom. PAs provide communication practice to help reinforce classroom learning and they create opportunities for new students to use English in a range of extra-curricular activities. PAs will be involved with the programme in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.

The teaching period of the Summer Immersion programme runs from July 2nd July 27th, 2018 (4 weeks) and all PAs are expected to be available for the full duration of the programme. PAs should check in on June 20 at the designated RC and must attend training sessions and hands-on practice from the 22nd to 29th June before the programme begins. Training is mandatory requirement.

The University of Macau offers an attractive stipend to local PAs. Conditions vary, however, depending on whether local PAs receive other university funding during the summer period, such as research assistants.
