FAH/PHIL: Chinese Philosophy and Religious Studies Salon – “Spiritual Exercises in West and East: The Socratic Dialogue and the Practice of Debate in the Zhuangzi” by Mr. Nicolas Yvon Le Jeune, University of Macau, Macao
|1 Apr 2016|
The notion of spiritual exercises is central in the work of the French historian of philosophy, Pierre Hadot, who is best known for his conception of ancient philosophy as a way of life. One of the most influential spiritual exercises of Western philosophy is the Socratic dialogue. This presentation will compare the practice of Socratic dialogue with the practice of debate in the Zhuangzi.
