FAH/PHIL Guest Lecture – “Confucius from a Comparative Perspective” by Prof. Wolfgang Kubin, Bonn University, Germany

Date:

21 Mar 2016

Venue:

E21-G035

Description:

Confucius seemed to be out of date in 20th century. It is, however, possible, to bring him back into discussion through comparative philosophy. Many issues that Confucius raised are now, be it under his influence or unconsciously, issues of contemporary German philosophy, just as awe (Bollnow), exercise (Sloterdijk) or harmony (Schmid). The paper tries to show that Confucius can be of help to understand the necessities of “modern” life.
