PHIL Guest Lecture – “Social Justice as a Normative Foundation for Critical Theory” by Prof. Paolo Bolanos
|8 Sep 2015|
This paper argues that “social justice” is a normative foundation for critical theory. In order to flesh out this argument, the paper will undergo three steps: 1) the framing of the discourse of critical theory within the ambit of social ontology; 2) suggesting that such social ontology should be undergirded by a political-practical (ethical) claim to the abolition of social injustice; and 3) appealing to Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to normatively ground social justice.
