Aims

  • To develop and to strengthen the department’s current research and research training in the areas of Literature, History and Culture of the Portuguese Speaking Countries ranging from different chronological periods , focusing on areas such as Comparative Literature, Translation Studies and Cultural relations between Asia and Portuguese Speaking Countries.
  • To stimulate cross-disciplinary approaches and research areas, drawing on the competence and experience of those disciplines’ scholarly traditions.
  • Students should identify scientific questions and subject them to critical analysis in an independent way.
  • Through the submission of their thesis, graduates of this programme will make their own contribution to research which widens boundaries of knowledge and conforms to the evaluation standards of national and international experts.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  1. Develop and strengthen their research ability on the literature, history and culture of Portuguese-speaking countries in different periods, focusing on comparative literature, translation studies, and cultural relations between Asia and Portuguese-speaking countries.
  2. Apply interdisciplinary research methods, classifying, describing and discussing original ideas and proposals.
  3. Identify academic problems and analyze them critically in an independent manner, bringing together and comparing different perspectives of well-defined research topics.
  4. Design a research project and write a thesis, which can make their own contribution to academic investigation, broaden the field of knowledge, and meet the evaluation criteria of national and international experts.
