Peter D. Mathews

Introduction

Peter D. Mathews was appointed as Professor of English Literature at the University of Macau in 2024. After completing a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at Monash University in 2002, he worked for nearly a decade as an academic in the United States before moving to Korea in 2010.

Research Interests

My first area of research is contemporary British fiction, with a particular interest in novels that engage with the traditions, devices, and themes that emerged with the rise of the English novel in the eighteenth century. My second area is Australian fiction, especially writers who approach literature from a more international and cross-cultural perspective. My third area is literary and critical theory, with a particular interest in French thought. Inquiries about postgraduate supervision in these areas are most welcome.
