The Department of English is committed to the teaching and research of literature in English and this continues to be an area of emphasis. Undergraduate literature in English students complete courses in British literature, twentieth century literature, and contemporary literature in English. Students also choose from a range of elective courses in Shakespearean drama, Romantic and Victorian literature, nineteenth-century American literature, modernism, postcolonialism, film studies, literary criticism, and so forth. Post-graduate students of literature are offered courses in these areas as well as in Holocaust education and autobiography. Successful masters-degree theses and doctoral dissertations have been completed in these areas.
