Aims

  • To train students with a systematic understanding of Chinese language and Chinese traditional culture;
  • To train students with strong critical thinking skills in analyzing Chinese language and literature;
  • To train students with strong writing and oral communication ability in Chinese;
  • To train students with both local Macau perspective and broad international horizon.

  • Introduce Chinese language and culture in a systematic manner.
  • Examine Chinese linguistic phenomena and Chinese literary works with a strong critical thinking ability, and some of them can pursue postgraduate studies.
  • Skillfully and accurately write Chinese reports and make presentations with a strong communication ability.
  • Find a job in the fields related to Chinese studies in Macao and other places with a strong collaboration ability.

Features

  • This programme emphasizes the coming together of theory and practice and aims to foster students with an international academic vision. Courses taught include Pre-Qin dynasty Literature, Contemporary Literature, Classical Chinese and Modern Chinese. In practical terms, it focuses on the training of writing skills. The greatest feature of this programme lies in its seamless integration of theories and practice.
  • The academic standing of the Chinese Department at UM matches international standards. All of our teaching faculty have been trained professionally and holistically, with abundant teaching experience and also in-depth knowledge of Macao.

Graduation Requirements

  • Obtain 132 credits (admitted in or before 2018/19) or 120 credits (admitted in or after 2019/20) as stated in the study plan of the programme;
  • With cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
