The ECAC  ‘International English Tests: Speaking Tips’ workshop was held on 20 April 2022 at E6-2112 attended by students from different faculties.

Different from the usual training workshop for an international English test, this workshop helped students analyse and understand the different elements of a speaking section from the perspective of an examiner.  ELC Teaching Fellow, Mr. Lance Michelson, introduced some basic information about the tests.  Students were then shown some formats and sample items widely available online to examine different parts of the speaking test.  Students were encouraged to put themselves in the examiner’s shoes to help them understand the question and answer process.  They were then given the opportunity to practice some Q & A.  After that, Mr. Michelson presented some useful tips on how to prepare for the test including a review of practice materials that can be found online, and some dos and don’ts while taking the test. Through this workshop, students learned some useful and practical strategies for preparing and taking international English speaking tests in the future.
