The English Co-Curricular Activities Committee (ECAC) welcomed a new batch of Student Ambassadors (SAs) for academic year 2024-2025. The journey of these talented students started at the Orientation Programme held on 11 September 2024. After a brief introduction, the SAs received their first training by Ms. Joan Leong assisted by Ms. Tess Lam, on how to create effective posters. In this workshop, the SAs learned impressionable poster designs. The purpose and functions of a poster were introduced, as well as the underlying factors needed to entice the audience. After that, Ms. Azita Kuok, presented the mechanics of video-making. The SAs learned some techniques of creating effective promotional videos that attract and keep viewers’ attention. Appropriate and ethical use of media were also addressed. After the workshops, the SAs engaged in an interactive and reflective activity, led by Ms. Vivian Chaplin, that incorporated interpersonal communication and teamwork. The SAs watched short video clips and played a game where they were being led through an isle of obstacles blindfolded. This was followed by an individual and group reflection – it was a meaningful experience for the ambassadors. The workshops helped student ambassadors open up their minds to a new sense of responsibility, with guidance and reassurance for the upcoming ECAC activities.
The student ambassadors received further training on summary writing led by Mr. Alan Chan on 9 October 2024. In this workshop, the SAs worked in groups. With the help of incumbent SAs, they worked as a team and analyzed a sample write up. They identified the key parts and discussed the important aspects of student activities. Then they organized other sample write-ups together. From this workshop, the SAs learned how to organize a post-activity write-up that will be published in the university bulletin and the ELC webpage.
The orientation and training programme jumpstarted the new batch of student ambassadors, and prepared them for the upcoming ECAC activities this academic year. Equipped with an elevated sense of responsibility and creativity, they are now looking forward to gaining experience and developing further their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while doing their university studies. Their work will be published and highlighted in the university platforms. With the promise of guidance and assistance, these talented students are ready for their endeavors as ECAC Student Ambassadors.
Congratulations to our new student ambassadors!
