ELC-Spring 2025 i-Learner English for Universities Marathon Competition
This semester, the ELC is thrilled to present the i-Learner English Marathon Competition! Dive into as many lessons as you can by April 15, 2025. To join the contest, students have to complete a minimum requirement of lessons with a score of 70% or above. Students from UE1 to UE3 must complete a minimum of 35 lessons, while students from E4 to E5 must complete at least 20 lessons to enter the competition. The ELC will select one champion who achieves the highest completion regardless of the level. The champion will be awarded a grand prize worth up to MOP 1,000. ELC-EWCC: 21-Day Podcast Listening Challenge
Dear Students, We’re excited to invite you to join our 21-Day Podcast Listening Challenge! This engaging activity will take place from February 10 to March 7. Here’s what to look forward to: Co-listening partners: You’ll team up with a peer to explore podcasts together. Dedicated support: Four writing centre tutors will guide you in improving your listening skills. Interactive sessions: Spend 5 hours per week on podcasts and enjoy 1-hour weekly sessions at the writing centre. During these meetings, you’ll learn effective listening techniques, share ideas, and practice your English-speaking skills. We are welcoming 8 students to participate in this challenge. Dear students, What’s your new year resolution for your academic studies? Have you ever explored the UM library, and have you ever met with any tutors at the English Writing and Communication Center (EWCC)? This semester, the writing centre EWCC will collaborate with the UM library to provide quick consultation support. ELC- ECAC: Photography in the American West
The American West is a unique region that has attracted photographers for centuries. In this workshop, students will explore the physical, cultural, and political dimensions of the region through the lenses of historic and contemporary photographs. Participants will learn how photography has been used as a tool of conquest and self-expression, recognize different types of photographic materials and technologies, and expand their photography- and history-related vocabulary. Students who attend will also earn Smart Points (SP). This ELC ECAC event is presented by Hugo Teixeira, an English Instructor at the ELC and a visual artist specializing in photography and printing.
