On 25th February, the Academic Writing Workshop was successfully held by the English Language Centre. This workshop focused on the use of online academic corpus technology to improve students’ university writing. In the workshop, Dr. Sean Grant introduced some of the fundamental functions of two major online corpora, which are the Corpus of Contemporary American English and the British Academic Written English. Students then practiced analyzing some of their writings by using the corpus tools and making informed decisions about the authenticity and appropriateness of the language used. Overall, the workshop gained very positive feedback from participants.
