To establish an effective platform for academic and career exchange among postgraduate students, on the afternoon of October 22, 2025, the Postgraduate Association of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAHPA) of the University of Macau (UM) successfully held a Peer Sharing Session at Room 3118 of FAH. The event attracted postgraduate students from different programmes and academic years. Prof. Li Defeng, Associate Dean of FAH, attended the session and delivered opening remarks. Yuan Lin, President of FAHPA, addressed the audience as well. The session was moderated by Tang Yinglin from FAHPA.

Prof. Li expressed his appreciation to the guest speakers and the organising team for their efforts. He emphasised that Peer Sharing Session serves as an essential platform for communication and mutual learning among postgraduate students, playing a vital role in promoting academic growth and holistic development. Prof. Li also encouraged students to seize opportunities for dialogue and exchange. Subsequently, Yuan Lin thanked the Faculty for its continuous support and extended his gratitude to the guest speakers and student organisers.

The session featured three student speakers: Yao Guangyuan, a third-year PhD student in English Linguistics; Wang Han, a third-year PhD student in Chinese Language and Literature; and Hu Shikun, a second-year MA student in English Studies. Their presentations focused respectively on academic publishing, interdisciplinary research, and skills on career development. Drawing from his extensive publication experience, Yao Guangyuan discussed practical strategies for topic selection, choice of journals, and procedures of submission. Wang Han analysed the key elements of interdisciplinary research from the perspectives of thinking, competence, and mindset, highlighting the importance of maintaining a questioning attitude and an explorative spirit. Hu Shikun, in a light-hearted manner, shared his experiences in job seeking and interviewing, offering valuable advice on a smooth transition from academia to workplace.

During the Q&A session, the audience engaged enthusiastically with the speakers, discussing topics like time management, academic writing, data analysis, and career planning in an interactive and lively atmosphere. After the session, FAHPA presented gifts to the speakers and took a group photo.

The successful conclusion of this Peer Sharing Session not only provided postgraduate students with a valuable platform for experience exchange and intellectual engagement but also injected new vitality into their future academic and career development. FAHPA will take this as a new starting point to continuously deepen peer mutual assistance mechanisms, expand the breadth and depth of interdisciplinary academic exchange, and safeguard the holistic growth and distinguished development of every postgraduate student.

In light of this, FAHPA will regularly host such peer sharing sessions, continuously cultivating fertile ground for the growth and exchange of postgraduate students. All students are encouraged to actively self-nominate or recommend fellow students to become guest speakers, sharing your valuable experiences and unique insights with more peers, as well as collectively writing brilliant chapters in academia and life!
