To echo the UM Open Day on 11 January 2026, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) welcomed around 1,200 members of the public, students, and parents to the FAH facilities for a vibrant cultural experience and a closer look at campus life.

With the theme “Perennial Humanities: From Ancient Wells to Modern Shores”, FAH set up twelve interactive game booths, two exhibitions, and an FAH admission talk. Through a blend of education and entertainment, the event showcased FAH’s distinctive strengths and academic achievements in language, culture, history, philosophy, arts, and cross-cultural studies. The event was particularly honored to receive the visit and guidance of Li Xuefei, Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and Kong Chi Meng, Director of the Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau, who learned about the achievements of the FAH in fields such as art and design.

FAH buzzed with excitement as the game booths, creatively designed by different units and the FAH Student Association, became the stars of the day. Highlights ranged from the fast-paced “Knowledge & Pitch-Pot Challenge” and the multi-level “History Tic Tac Toe” to the fascinating “The Chinese Characters Learning Lab” and the playful “Pun Intended, Fun Extended”. Visitors also embarked on cultural adventures with “Passport to World Englishes”, “Where Do They Come From?”, and “Guess the Gairaigo!”, discovering the joy of language and culture. Through hands-on play and friendly challenges, the humanities came alive, as approachable, meaningful, and deeply engaging. The “Piece of Me” booth hosted by the Department of Arts and Design was also a crowd favourite. participants were invited to create freely, collage boldly, and express their unique style and imagination, unlocking the endless possibilities of art and design.

Beyond the game booths, FAH presented two exhibitions, adding a rich artistic and cultural dimension to the Open Day. The exhibition “Artists from the Hometown of Matteo Ricci – Sandro Pazzi Print Exhibition,” organised by the Centre for Chinese History and Culture, attracted significant attention. Featuring selected prints by Italian artist Sandro Pazzi, the exhibition conveyed the historical context and spiritual essence of East-West cultural exchange through refined artistic expression.

Meanwhile, the faculty exhibition “A Tree of Knowledge: Creation Based on Greatness” was on display at the University of Macau Wu Yee Sun Library (E2) Art Museum. Through diverse media and creative forms, the exhibition beautifully blended scholarly insight with artistic practice.

The FAH admission talk attracted great interest from prospective students and parents. The session provided clear and comprehensive information on programme structures, learning features, and future development pathways, fostering lively interaction and meaningful exchanges.

Through this rich array of activities, FAH offered visitors a comprehensive understanding of the faculty’s academic strengths, while conveying the warmth, depth, and boundless scope of the humanities and leaving lasting, memorable impressions.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us today. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
