Since its establishment in 1998, SaloneSatellite, the satellite exhibition of Salone del Mobile.Milano, has become one of the most important global platforms for young designers and design schools to showcase creativity. It serves as a centre where design education and industry practice from around the world meet and exchange ideas.
The Department of Arts and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau (UM) has officially received an invitation from the organisers of the 2026 SaloneSatellite in Milan. This marks the first time that UM has been invited to participate in this international design event, where it will exhibit alongside leading design institutions from around the world.
Professor Zhou Hongtao has also been invited to serve as a jury member for the exhibition. He will join several distinguished figures from the international design community in selecting the annual design awards, including Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of the Department of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, and Marva Griffin Wilshire, founder of SaloneSatellite.
Following the exhibition theme “CRAFTSMANSHIP + INNOVATION,” the Department of Arts and Design at UM will present design works that explore sustainability and the integration of local craftsmanship, culture, and industry, showcasing contemporary visions of sustainable design and innovative craftsmanship.
At the same time, the Department of Arts and Design of FAH is inviting professors and students from across the University to submit design and innovation works related to the exhibition theme. Selected works will be incorporated into the themed exhibition. Submissions may cover a wide range of design disciplines, including product design, industrial design, interaction design, fashion design, visual design, spatial design, architecture, service design, system design, branding, and other related fields.
