Since its inception in 1998, SaloneSatellite, a key event under the Salone del Mobile.Milano, has established itself as one of the premier global platforms showcasing the creativity of young designers and design schools. It serves as a vibrant hub for the exchange and integration of international design education and industrial practice.
For the first time, the Department of Arts and Design of Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau, is invited to participate in this prestigious international design event. The University will showcase its work alongside other world-renowned design institutions. Furthermore, Professor Hongtao ZHOU has been invited to serve as a jury, joining distinguished figures in the international design world, including Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and Marva Griffin Wilshire, Founder of SaloneSatellite, to select the winners of the annual design awards.
In alignment with the exhibition theme, “CRAFTSMANSHIP+INNOVATION,” the Department of Arts and Design’s exhibition will focus on “sustainability” and its integration with local craftsmanship, culture, and industry. The aim is to present a design vision centered on contemporary sustainable design and new craftsmanship innovation. The University is concurrently calling for submissions of design and innovative works related to this theme from faculty and students across all faculties and departments. Selected works will be integrated into the thematic exhibition. The call encompasses a broad spectrum of design disciplines, potentially including but not limited to Product Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Fashion Design, Visual Communication, Spatial Design, Architecture, Service Design, System Design, and Branding.
