Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the University of Macau: FAH – Centre for Japanese Studies Lecture on Japanese Studies #1

Prof. Pan Jun from the School of Foreign Languages, Peking University was invited to deliver a guest lecture with the title “The Time and Space in Japanese Culture – A Perspective of Iconicity” on 23 April 2021 to our students and academics at UM.

Professor Pan has long been committed to the study of cognitive linguistic and he is a renowned scholar in this field. He began the lecture with the introduction of basic theory and approaches in cognitive linguistic, analyzed the difficulties confronted in Japanese learning and several catchy language phenomena. During the lecture, Professor Pan interpreted the relationship between language and human mind by some examples with great reference value.

The lecture attracted many Japanese Studies major students and all seats are occupied. Professor Pan’s lecture created a brand new way for students to consider about the facts in languages and culture. Through this lecture, students were able to obtain a new understanding towards the essence of Japanese culture and language. The lecture ended with warm applause from our students.
