The Centre for Japanese Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau welcomed Prof. Exian Li from Department of Japanese, School of Foreign Languages, Central China Normal University to deliver a lecture entitled “Literature of Lonely Losers: New Perspective upon the Characteristics of Japanese Literature” on 19 April 2023. All of the academic staff and over 100 students of the Centre for Japanese Studies attended the lecture.

Prof. Li first illustrated the concept of loneliness using various examples from Japanese song lyrics and poems as well as Chinese traditional literature. By analyzing representative writers and their literary works in each historical period, he then pointed out that loneliness is embodied as a key feature throughout the history of Japanese literature. In the following Q&A session, students exchanged their impressions and ideas on Japanese literature and some literary works with Prof. Li.
