The Department of Portuguese is an official testing site for the examinations co-ordinated by the Centre for Assessment of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (CAPLE) of Portugal. The evaluation examinations correspond to the proficiency levels established by the Common European Framework of the Council of Europe.

CELPE-Bras Brazil

CELPE-Bras (Certificado de Proficiência em Língua Portuguesa para Estrangeiros – Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners) is a certificate of proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language officially recognized and developed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC). The CELPE-Bras exam takes place twice per year in April and October.
