Greetings from the Department of Portuguese!

We are pleased to inform you that the 37th Portuguese Language Summer Course will be held from July 10 to 28, 2023 at the University of Macau Campus.

Upon successful completion of the registration and payment confirmation, participants will receive a confirmation letter.

COURSES and CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

In the morning, students will participate in language and theme-based workshops (15 hours each), which will run from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.. These courses may be supplemented by other activities to be held in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, students may engage in self-study or join any cultural activity organized by the Department of Portuguese or any other organization in Macau. Students attending B1 language classes may also join a workshop on Contemporary Portugal (15 hours). Students attending B2 language classes may attend the Translation course (30 hours).

Evening Clubs will start at 6:30 p.m.. They are open to all students.

All courses aim at helping participants to develop their linguistic, sociolinguistic, pragmatic and sociocultural knowledge in Portuguese as well as to raise their intercultural awareness.

LANGUAGE COURSES

Levels: Basic, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced (corresponding to CEFR A1 – C levels).

Number of hours: 45 (for Upper Intermediate and Advanced courses) and 60 (for Basic, Elementary and Lower Intermediate courses). Students may also benefit from guided autonomous study.

Upon enrolment, students are required to complete a placement form, which consists of written and oral tasks. According to their performance in those tasks, they will be assigned to a language class, which best fits their linguistic profile.

Language courses include Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing as well as Mediation activities.

Students will have access to free textbooks and other supplementary resources.

THEME-BASED COURSES, EVENING CLUBS and other CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Morning courses: on literature, history, international relations, translation, economy and other topics on contemporary Portuguese-speaking countries. These courses will be open to all students attending Upper Intermediate and Advanced language courses.

Afternoon courses and cultural activities: on translation and contemporary Portugal (education, health, economy, art, literature, society, amongst other topics).

Evening clubs: they develop your knowledge in topics like music, dance, poetry, gastronomy, Macanese culture, and prepare you for the Summer Course last event. Embrace this unique opportunity to show your talents!

Other resources on gastronomy, Macao culture, linguistics, music and dance will also be made available on Moodle.

FEES

For local students or students attending a Macao university: MOP3,000

  • it includes textbooks and course materials

For all other students: MOP6,000

  • it includes textbooks and course materials
  • it includes accommodation in shared room (1 set of beddings is provided)
  • food vouchers on MOP1,000 for Next Kitchen 

Both fees include free resources for all courses and cultural activities.

IMPORTANT: The tuition fee is not subject to be reimbursed if the student decides to cancel his/her application to the Portuguese Language Summer Course. All bank charges should be supported by the applicants.

 CERTIFICATES 

The Summer Course Certificate requires attendance of at least 80% of scheduled language and theme based classes.
