Dr. Paul B. Spooner has been a professional in the global commercial banking for over twenty-five years with Barclays Bank, ABN Amro Bank, and Deloitte Touche, operating throughout the United States and Asia, including China, Hongkong, Singapore, Thailand, Southeast Asia and Pakistan.  He is a CFA and holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan and a BA from Columbia University, where he initiated his studies of Mandarin.   Paralleling his finance career, Dr Spooner completed degrees at Yale University (MA, China Studies) and the University of Hong Kong (PhD Modern Chinese History) with a focus on Macau’s transition to a major gaming center.  He began teaching since 2010 at Jinan University in Guangzhou and has been with UMAC Dept of history as an adjunct professor in the Dept of History.  He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.  His publications include those in Revista de Cultura, the Journal of Asian Education & Development Studies, Ricci Institute’s Chinese Cross-Currents, and a compendium published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences sponsored by the University of Macau.
