The Chinese Resultative Construction – A Cognitive Constructional Analysis

Ronald has published a monograph The Chinese Resultative Construction – A Cognitive Constructional Analysis in LINCOM Studies in Chinese Linguistics Series. It examines the structure and function of the Chinese resultative construction and offers an innovative perspective on the construction from a broad cognitive constructional framework. In particular, this work examines the verb classes that enter into the resultative construction in Chinese and argues, based upon both typological and language-particular evidence, that the resultative construction signals the concept of subordination. Further, the analysis is extended to the language-particular ba-construction in Chinese and its interaction with the resultative construction to demonstrate the usefulness of the current framework.
