Victoria LEI Lai Cheng

Introduction
Victoria Lei joined the University of Macau in 1997 as a lecturer and is now an associate professor. She obtained her PhD in English Literature from the University of Glasgow, UK and is a life member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. She provides conference interpreting service at local, national and international levels. From 2003 to 2009 she was an invited translator/presenter at Teledifusão de Macau. Her main research interests include Comparative Studies, Translation/ Interpreting Studies and 19th-Century Studies. Her interpreting practice and teaching have led her to focus her research on Cognition and Interpreting in recent years. She joined UM’s Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences in 2019.
Education
After graduation from Macao Pui Ching Middle School and obtaining her Bachelor of Law degree from Jinan University, China, she went to the University of Glasgow, UK and completed an MPhil and a PhD in English Literature.
Research Interests
Victoria would be interested in supervising PhD students in the area of Cognition and Brain Sciences, Translation and Interpreting Studies, and MA students in the areas of British Literature, Translation Studies and Gender Studies.
Courses Regularly Taught
Courses she regularly teaches include: Simultaneous Interpreting, Consecutive Interpreting, Conference Interpreting, Survey of Literature in English, Victorian Literature, Children’s Literature Women’s Writing and Gender in Translation.
She is a member of the Federation of Translators and Interpreters of Macao, the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS), the British Comparative Literature Association (BCLA), and the European Society for Translation Studies (EST). She is also a broad member of the China Association for Translation, Interpreting and Cognition (CATIC).
