Prof. XU received her Mphil and PhD degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining UM, she worked in CUHK for several years. Prof. XU’s research interests lie primarily in Chinese dialectology and phonology, contact linguistics and historical linguistics. The results of her findings appear in journals including Zhongguo Yuwen(《中國語文》), Language and Linguistics, Journal of Chinese Studies, etc. Prof. XU’s monograph《潮州方言一百多年來的音韻演變》has been published in Commercial Press (Beijing). She is also the Principal Investigator of many academic projects. Now Prof. XU focuses on the research of Chinese dialects around the west Pacific Ocean.
