“Treaties in Danger? Contemporary Crises of International Order in Historical Perspective” Abstract: The rise of political populism in Europe and the United States, together with its accompanying nationalism and isolationism, has generated widespread apprehension that instability and division at the national level are scaling up to unsettle the international realm as well. The symptoms seem to be widespread: the Trump administration’s withdrawal from international agreements; Russia’s invasion of Crimea; Brexit; even a failed referendum in Switzerland to prefer “Swiss law over foreign judges”: all seem to indicate a crisis of the so-called “rules-based international order”. The English Language Centre (ELC) is now presenting you the Note-taking Workshop to be held on 25 October, 2019. This workshop aims to help students learn how to take notes in class in a more efficient way. In this workshop, students will understand the basic idea of note-taking skill, learn five types of commonly used symbols in note-taking, apply symbols mentioned above in exercises at different levels, and develop the habit of using symbols in note-taking for more productive class learning. FAH-DCLL Academic Seminar: “Comparison of literature Texts and Research on the Evolution of Early Modern Chinese” by Prof. Zhang Meilan 人文學院中國語言文學系學術講座：“文獻文本比較與近代 漢語演變研究”- 張美蘭教授
摘要：文本（Text），或因文獻刊刻版本不同，或因傳抄過程中輾轉引用，或因編修者個人的傾向不同，所處時代的影響，其流布方式多樣。文獻文本變革是語言變異的重要線索。尤其是同一文獻多文本、多途徑傳播，成為我們瞭解語言文化歷時演變的寶貴資料。不同版本用字、用詞及句法異同是漢語語言研究的重要材料。多版本綜合比較作為一種研究方法，也是尋找語言發展變化的一個重要視角。講座將以這一線索展開，說明近代漢語語言歷史變化的特點。
