The University of Macau’s (UM) Ichiban Club recently organised the Ichiban Day 2013, attracting many UM students interested in experiencing the Japanese culture. The Recreation Area adorned with cherry blossom decorations and red-and-white striped lanterns made visitors feel like they were on a street in Japan. Members of the Ichiban Club showed up in kimonos and Japanese maid costumes. There was a wishing rack for visitors to make a wish in the traditional Japanese way—by ringing a bell. A new highlight at this year’s Ichiban Day was the exhibition board explaining the history of kimonos and maid costumes.
