FAH-DPORT: CIELA Interdisciplinary Guest Talk Series – Leonor Diaz de Seabra
FAH-DPORT: CIELA Interdisciplinary Guest Talk Series – Leonor Diaz de Seabra
CIELA Interdisciplinary Guest Talk Series Rostos de Macau / Facets of Macau Title of talk: Macau and Brazil: Cultural Contacts Speaker: Leonor Diaz de Seabra, PhD Date: 11/11/2020 Time: 19 – 20h (GMT+7) Venue: Zoom link – https://umac.zoom.us/j/91494589953 Abstract To understand the relationships of Macau and Brazil it is necessary to consider the historical and geographical context of the relationship Europe/America/Asia. The Portuguese city of Macau was the only port in China permanently authorized to receive foreign embarkations. In spite of the prohibitions, clandestine trips, since early times, allowed the direct contact from Macau to America, through the Philippines, evading the regulations. The messages and goods carried via the route of the Cape of […]

FAH-DPORT: CIELA Interdisciplinary Guest Talk Series – Mônica Simas
CIELA Interdisciplinary Guest Talk Series Rostos de Macau / Facets of Macau Abstract This speech seeks to show that, in the unfinished story of A Quinta Essência , written by Agustina Bessa-Luis, contradictory and mysterious memories of Macau are put into circulation along the path of a protagonist, who in conflict with himself, reflects on the impossibility of knowing the world. The self-reflective narrative, full of anachronisms and fusion of diegetic levels, presents China as a desired “other”, permeated with crossed imagery. The main purpose of this communication is to verify how the intersections of these imaginary points to the possible meanings of Luso-Chinese contacts at the same time that erase the organization of Portugal’s old colonial records. The relations between fiction […]

FAH-DPORT: Seminar on “BILINGUALISM, LANGUAGES OF HERITAGE AND EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE: TO MAKE KNOWN THE PROBLEM RELATED TO HERITAGE”
FAH-DPORT: Seminar on “BILINGUALISM, LANGUAGES OF HERITAGE AND EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE: TO MAKE KNOWN THE PROBLEM RELATED TO HERITAGE”
BILINGUISMO, LÍNGUAS DE HERANÇA E PRÁTICA LETIVA: DAR A CONHECER A PROBLEMÁTICA RELACIONADA COM A HERANÇA. BILINGUALISM, LANGUAGES OF HERITAGE AND EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE: TO MAKE KNOWN THE PROBLEM RELATED TO HERITAGE ABSTRACT According to Flory & Souza (2009), studies show that there is no universally accepted definition for bilingualism and for this reason; it makes sense to investigate this phenomenon in relation to its social, cultural, linguistic and cognitive consequences. Garcia (2009) understands bilingualism as a complex linguistic, psychological and sociocultural behavior, and that has multidimensional aspects because it involves different areas of human life (social, cultural, family, identity, linguistic, emotional). Thus, our goal is to discuss bilingualism as a complex phenomenon in which various elements interact and, as such, […]

FAH-DENG Guest Lecture: “Professional Standards and Norms of Translation: Reflections from the Perspective of the Sociology of Law” by Prof. Zhao Junfeng
Abstract: As the only national professional association, Translators’ Association of China (TAC), along with other relevant departments and institutions, developed and issued a host of professional standards and norms of translation which, to some extent, has contributed to and will continue to push for an orderly development of language services industry in China. Nevertheless, related laws with binding force are yet to be developed to ensure the transition of the industry from “a chaotic market” to “a professional autonomy.” Interactive relations between industry norms and prospective laws are explored from the perspective of the sociology of law, and suggestions on the legislation of translation industry are accordingly presented in this talk. Biography: Junfeng Zhao is Ph.D. in forensic linguistics, professor […]
