FAH-DENG Guest Lecture: “Professional Standards and Norms of Translation: Reflections from the Perspective of the Sociology of Law” by Prof. Zhao Junfeng
Abstract: As the only national professional association, Translators’ Association of China (TAC), along with other relevant departments and institutions, developed and issued a host of professional standards and norms of translation which, to some extent, has contributed to and will continue to push for an orderly development of language services industry in China. Nevertheless, related laws with binding force are yet to be developed to ensure the transition of the industry from “a chaotic market” to “a professional autonomy.” Interactive relations between industry norms and prospective laws are explored from the perspective of the sociology of law, and suggestions on the legislation of translation industry are accordingly presented in this talk. Biography: Junfeng Zhao is Ph.D. in forensic linguistics, professor […]

DHIST guest lecture:
DHIST guest lecture:
DHIST guest lecture:
DHIST guest lecture:

FAH/DPHIL Guest Lecture – “Observing Trump: A Systems-Theoretical Postscriptum” by Prof. Markus Heidingsfelder, Xiamen University Malaysia
FAH/DPHIL Guest Lecture – “Observing Trump: A Systems-Theoretical Postscriptum” by Prof. Markus Heidingsfelder, Xiamen University Malaysia
Zoom: https://umac.zoom.us/j/93087193232 Abstract In his talk, Dr. Heidingsfelder will add a postscriptum to his recently published book on Donald Trump (Trump - beobachtet/Observing Trump). By defocalizing the president's actions and shifting the attention toward social structures, he aims to overcome the 'thin' explanations that still dominate the academic debate and reveal the dependency of individuals and events upon social systems - including "Individual 1". His main thesis is that 'systems conflicts' are responsible for the noise around the 45th president of the United States; conflicts between the system of politics and other sub-systems of society, mainly the law, the economy, the mass media, and science. Bio Markus Heidingsfelder is the author of System Pop (2012) and Trump - […]
